  • A 3x3x3 Rubik’s cube consists of 21 joined pieces:
  • 1 principal piece with three axles.
  • 8 corner pieces (corner solid shapes) with three tones.
  • 12 edge pieces (edge 3D squares) with two tones.

History

  • Ernő Rubik assembled his first cube puzzle in 1974 and called it the Magic Cube.
  • In the following years, it was used by Ernő Rubik to teach his students about three-dimensional spaces.
  • After a toy agent pitched the puzzle to Ideal Toy & Novelty Company, it renamed the puzzle Rubik’s Cube.
